2010 events

As we continue to recognize the contributions that African-Americans have made to our country, Catholics recognized the many gifts and accomplishments of the Knights and Ladies of Peter Claver have made to our church. Here are excerpts from the Centenary Mass celebrated in 2009.

The Most Reverend Wilton D. Gregory - Africa Synod

Archbishop Gregory has had a leading role in the U.S. church. In November 2001, he was elected president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops following three years as vice president. Archbishop Gregory has written extensively on church issues, including pastoral statements on the death penalty and euthanasia/physician -assisted suicide. He is chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs.

National Day of Prayer for the African American and African Family

The National Day of Prayer for the African American and African Family was created by Fr. James Goode, OFM in 1989. It is a day set aside to give special thanks to God for our families and place our every care in the arms of Jesus.
