  • Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, A -- Uneven musical fantasy derived from Mark Twain's tale of a blacksmith (Bing Crosby) hit on the head in turn-of-the-century New England, then awakened in sixth-century Camelot by a knight (William Bendix) of the Round Table. Directed by Tay Garnett, Crosby's bemused Sir Boss is entirely agreeable and Sir Cedric Hardwicke's Arthur is drolly dense, but the action rarely measures up to its comic potential and the forgettable songs add little to the entertainment. Brief stylized violence. (A-I) (br) ( 1949 )
