With your help CCHD will continue to raise awareness of poverty in the U.S. and to work with those who are struggling to break the cycle of poverty in their lives and in their communities. We do this through community organizing and economic development grants, justice education programs, and the Poverty USA campaign. Here are some specific ideas for supporting the Catholic Campaign for Human Development either as an individual or with other JustFaith graduates:
- Be an Ambassador for CCHD in your (arch)diocese or parish. Tell others what you know about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Share your positive experience of the CCHD Journey to Justice day with your friends, pastor, and other parishioners. Ensure the timely display of CCHD Collection materials. Volunteer to speak (or arrange for a speaker) at Mass prior to the Collection. Display or distribute copies of CCHD’s informational brochure in your Church or organization. Request free copies available while supplies last at cchd@usccb.org.
- Get involved with a group that is or has been funded by CCHD and is in good standing with the Church. Reconnect with the group with whom you shared the Journey to Justice day. Find out what progress they have made on the projects they presented. To find more CCHD-funded groups go to www.usccb.org/cchd/grants/index.shtml#recently. As you hear of community-based organizations that address poverty share CCHD’s grant criteria and encourage them to apply for funding. You can direct the group’s leaders to www.usccb.org/cchd/grants/index.shtml.
- Use CCHD education resources in prayer groups and faith-sharing programs at your parish. Be sure to check out newly created Lent and young adult resources. Visit www.usccb.org/cchd/education.shtml for descriptions and ideas for using these resources.
- Encourage your parish youth group and Catholic schools to participate in the Multi-Media Youth Arts contest. Nominate a Catholic young adult for the Cardinal Bernardin New Leadership Award. Encourage young adults to apply for a CCHD internship. Details at www.usccb.org/cchd/youth.shtml.
- Talk with your Diocesan Director for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. If necessary, find out who has this responsibility by visiting www.usccb.org/cchd/director.shtml. Volunteer to help with site visits, communication, or education efforts. Ask about serving on the diocesan CCHD Committee.
We would love to hear how you are staying connected with CCHD. Please share your stories and photos with us at cchd@usccb.org.
